... is (of course) the lead singer of KC and the Sunshine Band. They had three Top Ten hits in the UK, in the 1970s: Queen of Clubs, That's the Way (I Like It) and Please Don't Go. They had to wait until 1983 for their only UK No. 1: Give It Up (Nana–nana–nana–nana–na–na–naah ... ).
Another memorable hit for them was (Shake Shake Shake) Shake Your Booty, released in 1976, which only made No. 22 in the UK. It was one of five No. 1 hits in the USA however – along with That's the Way, Please Don't Go, Get Down Tonight and I'm Your Boogie Man. The last two of these also failed to make the Top 20 in the UK.
Give It Up only reached No. 18 on the band's own side of the pond, after Epic – the label to which they were signed at the time – refused to release it (disco music being out of favour by then) and it came out on the independent Meca label.
Not sure if this is something we'd want to brag about, but the UK was ahead of the States in appreciation of KC and the boys. Queen of Clubs was their second single, and although it reached No. 7 in the UK it only made No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. The follow–up, Sound Your Funky Horn, made No. 17 in the UK and No. 21 in Billboard; Get Down Tonight (No. 1 in the USA, No. 21 in the UK) was their fifth single.
